The application of transmission line surge arresters (TLSAs) is one the main approaches found to boost performance overhead lines (OHTLs) against atmospheric discharges. Thus, this work proposes a methodology for optimal placement TLSAs in OHTLs based on combination an optimization algorithm - inspired by General Variable Neighbourhood Search and Genetic Algorithm ATP (Alternative Transient Program). estimation made considering little cited transfer effect due operation. At end, order analyze functioning proposed procedure, experiments are carried out optimize positioning two OHTLs. It may be inferred from results that directing search lightning favoring lowest phase(s) can reduce amount necessary satisfy constraints, or at least diminish computational cost.
